DORSET

The Vineyards of Dorset

It is only since about 2000 that Dorset could be considered a viticultural county. Until then, the only major vineyards were at Purbeck in the south and Sherborne and Shaftesbury, far to the north of the county, and Horton at Wimborne Minster. The latter seems to have disappeared from radar, though may still exist. However in the south is an extension of the Sussex/Kent 'sparkling wine belt', led by Ian Edwards at Furleigh. The wine expert Stephen Spurrier also is developing his own estate at Cross Tree.
