UKVA Competition in 2013

The Mercian Vineyards Association hosted the 2013 competition at halfpenny Green Vineyards in Warwickshire. Local veteran viticulturalist TONY SKURIAT claimed the only cup in the region with his outstanding Sweet wine - a Skuriat speciality.

The majority of the cups and Gold medals were shared out by the South Eastern Region and East Anglia. Old stagers like New Hall in Essex and Chapel Down (formerly Tenterden) in Kent had outstanding results. Some newcomers also featured. There were also silvers for Wraxall in Somerset and Tintern in Wales, and for the grandfather of them all - Hambledon in Hampshire. Winbirri at Norwich and Little West End at Waterlooville were amongst the newcomers winning medals.

However, who could dispute that one of the great successes was the small FURLEIGH vineyard who proved that the small can really compete with the big ones.
