The Vineyard

Yorkshire Heart vineyard was born from a love of making wine from the fruits found in hedgerows and gardens and a passion for growing plants .In the early part of 2000 they planted 35 vines in the garden at Green Hammerton. 5 years later they had made their first official wine [to be called wine it has to be made from grapes], this inspired them to look at the possibility of planting on a commercial basis. After consultancy about site, climate and soil testing, the 7 acres field was selected as having most potential.
2006 saw the very first 1000 vines planted, followed by 1000 to 3000 vines planted each April for the next 5 years bringing the total number to 12,500 which has filled the site. They are now growing 17 varieties to find out which are most suited to our climate and topography, also which will make the best quality and flavoured wines.
2014 has seen an exciting development in the vineyard.. In May they planted a new vineyard on the adjoining field, with 1000 Rondo for Red and Rosé wines,1,500 Ortega for quality white wine and 2000 Seyval Blanc for our award winning English sparkling wine. They have also started a cider orchard which is a mixture of desert, cooking and cider trees. All the vines and fruit trees will come into production by 2017

The Brewery

Yorkshire Heart Brewery was established relatively recently on the back of the success of the vineyard and fulfilling Chris and his son’s Tim’s long held ‘taste’ for beer, they have developed a micro-brewery just a short hop(!) from the vineyard. The brewery grew from a modest initial proposal into a very efficient brew house when they realised that to produce top quality ales they had to use top quality ingredients and equipment All the beers are brewed on site using top quality malts and hops, including water from our own natural spring giving the beer its unique Yorkshire taste to perfectly compliment the rich heritage of local produce and foods. Our range of beers is regularly changing to reflect the changing seasons and good local fare available in the area. The beers are available in a variety of pubs local and further afield

Venue Hire

The vineyard provides an idyllic and unique rural location to host special celebrations, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, christening or wedding. What could be better than holding your event surrounded by beautiful vines with some excellent opportunities for some fantastic photographs of your special day. There are different packages available, whether the venue just be for hire or with the added bonus of fantastic home grown English wines and cask ales

Tours & Tastings

Yorkshire Heart now offer both Brewery & Vineyard Tours & Tasting sessions. The Vineyard is best visited between May & September, at this time of year there is plenty to see i.e. the difference in the growth patterns of the vines (we have 15 varieties) and weather is more favourable (hopefully!).

The Win!

‘The sun is certainly shining bright over Yorkshire Heart Vineyard & Brewery this morning as we wake up still in a small amount of shock after having had a fantastic day yesterday at the Mercian Vineyard Association Awards held at Hothorpe Hall in Leicester, we went there with the hope of winning 1 award but are ecstatic to announce that we have come home with not just 1 award but 5 awards!! The awards were for-
  • Best sparkling wine
  • Best wine from another vintage
  • Best northern wine
  • Best label
  • And the one we are most proud of Wine maker of the year!

After years of hard graft and much needed & appreciated help from friends and family it has been a long slog to get our wines to the high standard that has made it award winning, as you can imagine we are all absolutely thrilled
